A woman and her four children who were murdered by her husband have been laid to rest in Karuangi village in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, Kenya.

Millicent Muthoni, 38, was hacked to death together with her four children by her husband Paul Murage, 35, at Kathata village in Gichugu constituency on November 30.

The four children; two boys and two girls, were aged 13, 7, 5 and 1 year respectively.

The motive of the killing still remains unclear, with reports also indicating that the man defiled one of his daughters before committing the murders.

The five were buried in one grave in a ceremony led by led by Rev. Cyrus Ngeere of Kianjiru Ack Church at the weekend.

Speakers at the burial ceremony led by Gichugu Member of Parliament Robert Gicimu Githinji strongly condemned the incident calling an action against the perpetrator of the murder.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arraigned before a Gichugu court on December 1, 2021 where he did not take plea.

The prosecution however requested the court to give it a period of two weeks to conclude investigations and conduct a mental test on the culprit.

On December 15, Njuki was presented before Kerugoya High Court Judge Richard Mwongo, where he was further remanded for 40 days at Kerugoya GK Prison after prosecutor Vincent Mamba requested that he be remanded until January 24, 2022.

The time period, Mamba said, would allow the court to find a suitable counsel for the culprit so that he can finally take plea.
